GAME TIME: Saskatchewan. a woman produces a video game presented on an online storefront

SASKATOON – A video game produced by a Saskatchewan woman appeared as part of the Wholesome Direct Indie Gaming Showcase online last weekend.

“They contacted me a few months ago, and they asked me if I wanted to participate, and of course I said yes because I really love their showcases and I love all the games they show, and yes, I will be honored, ”Samantha said. Ramsay, the founder of CheekyNauts, a company she started last year.

The game is called Moonshell Island and is described as a colorful exploration simulation game similar to the old Legend of Zelda games. It takes place on an island where players must interact with the community, find sustainable ways of living, become resourceful, and battle monsters.

Ramsay says the concept for the game came from his upbringing on Denman Island in British Columbia.

“This is where I grew up, and it was always kind of my dream place to return. And I wanted to at least make it happen in my head with a game.

“I hope to somehow show a way of life that is a little more connected with nature and more concerned with using the things around you, without wasting so much.”

Ramsay, who lives in Regina, teamed up with a German friend to help produce the game. Ramsey mainly deals with artistic concepts, while her German friend, whom she met on Twitter, mainly helps with programming. and coding.

“I found it too difficult to do it all at once so I decided to cut the programming out of my life and let someone else do it.”

Ramsay says being on Wholesome Direct is a great opportunity. The online indie games showcase, which features several different games, already has over 70,000 views in just three days.

“Our characters also had to be on the t-shirts they sold for charity, so that was really cool.”

Ramsay says the game is still in early development, but she hopes to have a public demo available later this year or early next year.

Right now, the game is available on the Wish List on Steam.

MADDEN 22 INDEX

It’s become a tradition in the video game industry over the past decade – speculating who will be on the cover of the annual EA Madden football game.

Discussions intensified on Wednesday after EA Sports tweeted a possibly teasing trailer that could be on the cover.

The trailer points to the doors of a barn, clattering violently, then opening before two goats casually exit.

It then shows Peyton Hillis talking on a cell phone, saying the line “they did it again”.

Many have dubbed Tom Brady the GOAT (greatest of all time) in the NFL. But with a second goat appearing in the trailer, there is speculation that two athletes could be featured.

The tweet says fans will officially find out who will cover Madden on Thursday.
