Johan Nikles vs. Vit Kopriva Face to Face

Nikles and Kopriva have never faced each other in a competitive match before that.

Nikles plays his second main draw match

Nikles had made his ATP main draw debut in 2016 when he was given a wild card to feature in Gstaad that year, but what is surprising is what followed. He lost in that first round match and since then has never played in the main draw of ATP competitions again.

Over the past three seasons, starting in 2019, Nikles has started winning tournaments on the Futures circuit, of course, but his struggles even in Challenger tournaments are real.

This year, for example, he took part in three Challenger competitions and lost the qualifications of two of them without qualifying. Finally at the Amersfoort Challenger which took place last week, Nikles managed to win their first round match after qualifying for the main draw, but then fell at the second hurdle.

Can he now take that giant step by winning his first match on the ATP Tour?

Kopriva-Best career hit of 249th

He’s 249th in the world, but that in itself is a huge improvement over his 305th in February of this year and outside the top 600 in 2019.

Kopriva, who has five Futures titles to his name, needed a few qualifiers to qualify for the main draw here, beating Maximilian Marterer and Enzo Couacaud.

Earlier this season, Kopriva had qualified for the semi-finals in Braunschweig and Rome while winning the quarter-finals in Prague.

His best result this season, however, came on the ATP Tour when he not only qualified for the main draw at the Marbella Open but also reached the second round beating Lukas Rosol.

Interestingly, Rosol was the last to beat Kopriva, with that match taking place earlier this month at the Amersfoort Challenger.

Nikles v Kopriva Prediction and Tip

While Nikles is a local boy, it’s Kopriva’s form that is something to watch out for on the lower level. Support him to clinch this tie in the first round in straight sets.
