Port St. Lucie Halts Recycling Pickup Service to Allow Waste Pro to Catch Up on Trash Collection

Port St Lucie – Thursday 19 May 2022: The City of Port St. Lucie will temporarily suspend curbside recycling services effective Monday, May 23 so Waste Pro can focus on backordered garbage collection service. The pause is indefinite. It will be lifted once Waste Pro catches up.

For those who already have a recycling cart currently curbside, Waste Pro is overdue and will do everything possible to pick it up no later than Saturday, May 21.

Any items left curbside at people’s homes, including material in recycling carts, will be collected as garbage on regular garbage collection days. Curbside collection will be restored when normal garbage collection service levels resume and remain constant. Until the new waste hauler begins in September, Waste Pro will continue to collect resident trash on normal collection days.

“We understand our residents’ frustrations and are working on many fronts to improve our waste collection services,” said Mayor Shannon Martin. “During this time of transition between waste haulers, we would like to thank our residents for their patience and look forward to the day when we can resume normal curbside recycling collection.”

During this temporary break, residents can save their recyclables or use the city’s voluntary drop-off site and the St. Lucie County Solid Waste Baling and Recycling Facility to drop off recyclables for free. Please bring empty and clean materials to:

• The Port St. Lucie free drop-off site behind the green, fenced area just west of the Florida Turnpike overpass at the corner of Cameo Boulevard and Crosstown Parkway. This collection site will be accessible to residents of Port St. Lucie, seven days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., until further notice.
• St. Lucie County Solid Waste Baling and Recycling Facility, 6120 Glades Cut-Off Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981. This collection site is available to residents of St. Lucie County, six days per week, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Beginning in September, FCC Environmental Services Florida, LLC will be Port St. Lucie’s new solid waste collection carrier. Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected once a week on a designated day. Bulky items will be collected once a month on a designated day. The new solid waste collection schedule will be announced to residents by mid-August 2022.
