Miami Dolphins (3-0) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (1-2)

  • Start time: 8:15 p.m. ET
  • Direct: Amazon Prime, NFL+

The Dolphins and Bengals were in a very different position two seasons ago. Fresh off of horrible campaigns in 2019, both franchises selected those they assumed would be top quarterbacks for the future. Cincinnati selected former LSU QB Joe Burrow No. 1, while Miami selected Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa No. 5 in the 2020 NFL Draft.

While success didn’t come immediately, both teams discovered more potential when selecting a WR in the 2021 NFL Draft who played with their respective QBs in college. The results were so positive for Burrow and the Bengals that the team made a Super Bowl appearance last season. Miami’s offense has struggled again in 2021, but a new head coach, offensive system and Tyreek Hill have helped unlock Tua and the Dolphins’ cap this season.

The Bengals had a rocky start to 2022. The offensive line failed to protect Burrow, as Cincinnati currently allows five sacks per game. Luckily for them, they have a tired Dolphins team coming to town. Miami and Buffalo played in a 21-19 slugfest in Week 3 that featured a heat index of over 100 degrees. Tua suffered a back injury but would return to lead the Dolphins to a third straight victory.

Miami has seven players qualified as questionable for tonight’s contest, including Tua, WR Jaylen Waddle, CB Xavien Howard and OT Terron Armstead, to name a few. Meanwhile, the Bengals will be without DT DJ Reader and TE Drew Sample. OT La’el Collins is questionable.

While Miami has looked unstoppable this season, will the war they went through on Sunday and the short week be too much for the team to handle? Thursday night road teams haven’t always done well, but maybe Miami can call on that spark of late-game magic that was on display the last time these two foes faced off in of Thursday Night Football.

The Week 4 premiere tilt also includes the first sighting of the NFL’s new helmet rules for the 2022 season. After a nearly decade-long hiatus, NFL franchises once again have the opportunity to wear one of the two helmets with their uniforms. Cincinnati will be the first team to take advantage of this rule by debuting “White Bengal” helmets to pair with white Color Rush jerseys. Many expected the Dolphins to unveil a throwback helmet option for their uniforms, but Miami waited for now.
