New York’s Madison Square Garden will host a cross-sport rivalry bout at UFC 281 on Nov. 12. Israel Adesanya defends UFC middleweight title against Alex Pereira.

The two have faced each other twice in kickboxing. Pereira beat Adesanya by decision in April 2016 and then won by knockout in March 2017.

Adesanya joined the UFC in 2018 after losses to Pereira. In 2019, he defeated Kelvin Gastelum for the interim UFC middleweight title and defeated Robert Whittaker a few months later to become champion. Since then, Adesanya has defended the belt five times. Adesanya’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Jared Cannonier in July.

Pereira turned pro in 2015. Joining the UFC in 2021, he is 3-0 with the promotion. Pereira last fought in July, beating Sean Strickland by knockout.
